Welcome Week Was a Huge Success This Semester

By: Mary Ann Cozza

Despite the hot temperatures, students came out in droves to participate in the games and fun of Welcome Week. Vendors such as Sony, Games2U, Vitamin Water and NewEgg.com participated during the first two days of class and passed out tons of great giveaways for students including 2,000 burritos from Freebirds World Burrito. Students danced to the tunes of radio station 95.7 and interacted with Houston professional teams the Aeros, Dynamo and Texans.

According to Michelle Falcon, associate director of student activities, UHD handed out over 8,000 promotional items such as UHD pens, highlighters, cups and water bottles, and over 3,000 campus maps. The Welcome Week volunteers made sure students were well-fed and hydrated by passing out snow cones, popcorn, over 8,400 bottles of Dasani water and 2,000 snacks. Unfortunately, the demand for the free snow cones was so great the mighty machine broke due to overuse and overheating. But what a way to go!

Many thanks to the Welcome Week crew for making the first days of school a fun and engaging experience for UHD students.
