Welcome Week Begins Monday, Aug. 24; Volunteers Needed

The Office of Student Activities and the Welcome Week committee have planned a weeklong program of interactive events to welcome UHD students to the fall 2015 semester. This campus tradition gives students the opportunity to meet new people and connect with campus life through student-centered activities.

Among the highlights is "Waffles with the President," during which students will enjoy breakfast for dinner, served by President Bill Flores, as well as other UHD faculty and staff.

Throughout the week, the W.I. Dykes Library will house a graffiti wall, where students can write or draw their ideas of what it means to be a Gator. Other events include a sports and fitness fair hosted by Hot 95.7 FM, a movie night and ice cream social, the annual BBQ and Music event, and a downtown scavenger hunt called "Amazing Race." View the full event schedule online.

Students who attend at least three events throughout the week will be entered into a drawing, and 40 winners will receive free entrance to Saturday's Dynamo game against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BBVA Compass Stadium.

In addition to these student events, "Gator Pits" will be available Monday and Tuesday. Placed throughout campus, these tents will be staffed by UHD employees who will direct students to their classes and distribute bottled water, maps and UHD merchandise giveaways. The Welcome Week committee still needs volunteers to man the Gator Pits and assist with the Amazing Race event. Sign up online.
