Want a Teaching Internship at the SPCA? Learn More on April 11!

Do you love teaching children and helping animals? The Houston SPCA has THE opportunity for you!

The Houston SPCA is offering a limited number of student teaching internships for college students with a passion for helping kids and animals during the annual Summer Critter Campus from June 5 through August 4. All disciplines and majors are welcome to take part. The internship requires a commitment of at least two or three weeks at 30 hours each week, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday - Friday.

The internships allow students to work closely with the Camp Manager, certified teachers, and volunteer high school students (Critter Crew) in a classroom setting, located at the Houston SPCA’s 14,000-square-foot Carruth Education Center. Based on each week’s grade level and theme, the TEKS-approved curriculum used for daily lessons and supporting crafts introduces campers to the world of animal welfare, including veterinary medicine, animal cruelty investigations, animal care, and wildlife rehabilitation/release.  Activities include games, daily guest speakers who support the week’s theme, and group animal interactions in the Adoption Center.

Hosted by the Center for Community Engagement & Service Learning, representatives from the Houston SPCA will be on hand on the UHD campus to share information on Tuesday, April 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the hall on the third floor of the One Main Building near the Food Court. Interested students may also email Education@HoustonSPCA.org for more information.
