'Walk 2 Vote' Event on Oct. 29 Aims to Register and Encourage Students to Vote

In honor of Citizenship Month in Houston, the UHD Student Government Association will again host "Walk 2 Vote," a march dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of voting and to encourage youth voter registration — especially among college students. The Walk 2 Vote 2015 march will kick off from the One Main Building South Deck on Thursday, Oct. 29, at noon, followed by a walk at 2 p.m. to the Harris County Administration Building at 1001 Preston to cast votes. UHD students, faculty and staff are welcome to join.

Hip-Hop Artist Bun B addresses the audience at Thursday's Walk 2 Vote 2014 rally.

The event will feature on-site voter registration, an introduction by Mayor Annise Parker, keynote speakers from the Houston community and musical entertainment. The rally will close with a performance by hip-hop artist Rocko Stedy.

Early voting for the Nov. 3 election began Oct. 19 and runs through Friday, Oct. 30. Even if you can't participate in the "Walk 2 Vote" rally, you can still cast your vote. For Harris County polling locations, visit the Harris County Clerk's Office Election Division.
