Urban Ed Students and Professor Present at Area Conference

Urban education professor Leigh Van Horn and nine of her students recently presented a three-hour workshop at the Houston Area Association for the Education of the Young Child (HAAEYC) Conference at the Reliant Center.

In this session, the students presented on early literacy participants engaged in interactive, small group sessions that focused on sorting and manipulating pictures and letters to teach phonemic awareness, phonics and the alphabetic principle to young learners.

Session reviewers noted that they liked the session because of its unusual hands-on approach and the opportunity for an exchanges of ideas between early childhood educators and presenters.
