At the May 21, University of Houston System (UHS) Board of Regents Meeting, one UHD faculty emeriti was named along with 19 faculty promotions.

Dr. Myrna Cohen, professor of ESL Education, was named Professor Emeritus for her significant contributions to the institution. The UHS Board recognizes faculty emeriti who contribute their expertise and institutional knowledge to the institution and serve in advisory roles.

Cohen joined UHD in 2000. In 2004, she was promoted to the rank of associate professor and also elected department chair of Urban Education in which she served for eight years. Her leadership continued as associate dean in the College of Public Service from 2012 to 2017, during which time she also earned a promotion to the rank of Professor.
