The University of Houston-Downtown hosted a Food Fair on Saturday, Jan. 23 to serve students, faculty and staff in need. This Food Fair is among many initiatives UHD has sponsored to support its community during this pandemic.

Volunteers from UHD's student body, facutly and staff coordinated registration, sorted items, bagged groceries, and placed bags in vehicles. A record number of families turned out to collect the free supplies.

Community service is a part of the University's DNA. The Food Fair is a demonstrable example of UHD Gators' goodwill, especially during difficult times, and is one of many activities included in UHD's philanthropy during the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, the University hosted a pre-holiday Health Fair that provided groceries to Gators, and the institution has provided computers and devices to in-need students for online classes.

The Food Fair is part of UHD’s Welcome Week activities, which started on Tuesday, Jan. 19. The week is an opportunity to introduce new and greet returning Gators. Welcome Week’s overall purpose is to provide programming that will assist with connecting students to peers, faculty, staff, student organizations and resources on and off the campus.
