UHD's First Food Pantry to Collect Canned Goods, Other Food Items

This week, the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (ORSP), the Student Government Association (SGA) and Veterans Services will host a food drive to support the future UHD Student Food Pantry.

SGA has partnered with the Veterans Services Office to file an application to include UHD as a pantry site for the Houston Food Bank.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to donate a canned or nonperishable food item in exchange for a Valentine's Day Treat on Feb. 12, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the third-floor atrium. Donors will be entered in a drawing to win dinner for two at Spaghetti Warehouse, a $10 Starbucks gift card or a Starbucks coffee mug, courtesy of Aramark.

Assistant Vice President of ORSP, Sandra Garcia, said her office saw the event as an opportunity to engage with and serve students. "The nature of our work is more external, working with outside organizations. We don't often have a chance to interface with students. We thought this was a good chance to get that face-to-face time while serving a need on campus," Garcia said.
