All Gators Are Welcome: August 24 - 28

Summary

By Sheryl E. Taylor

For the past 30-plus years, welcoming new and current students in anticipation of the upcoming school year has been a UHD tradition. And, UHD's Welcome Week celebrates this tradition the only way it knows how ... the Gator Way!

The fall semester’s Welcome Week, slated for August 24 – 28, is chock-full, all-virtual week of activities.

The Office of Student Activities in partnership with Student Affairs, Student Activities Sports & Fitness, Office of Disability Services, Career Development, Student Counseling, UHD Northwest, Veterans Services, Center for Student Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and the Dean of Students Office will not be daunted despite the unique challenges imposed by the pandemic.

“Despite the new normal surrounding our nation, state and University, we have prepared an amazing week of events to help acclimate those who are new and returning to the Gator Family,” said Tremaine Kwasikpui, Director of Student Activities. “We have a great week planned this fall. All are invited to network with fellow Gators, enjoy activities and amazing prizes! I’m so proud of my colleagues and departments for making such a meaningful week.”

As always, all Welcome Week activities are open to all students; however, some events have a maximum cap of 50 – 100 students. Overall, Kwasikpui expects at least a minimum of 1,000 to join during the all-virtual events.

The week will kick-off with a virtual game show. Followed by events that include daily sessions with UHD Student Counseling and UHD Sports & Fitness to encourage self-care through overall health and wellness in preparation for the upcoming semester.

Gators and their families are invited to Virtual Bingo hosted by UHD Veterans Services, UHD Movie of the Week hosted presented by the Office of Disability Services and a the Office of Student Activities’ Virtual Magic Show. UHD’s Career Development and Sports & Fitness (S&F) is hosting daily scavenger hunts. Other events include a virtual cookie baking class, "FitChats" with S&F personal trainers, daily challenges and much more.

The week will come to grand finale close with a first in Gator history — a Drive-In Movie hosted in UHD's Bayou Parking Lot. Register here to sign up!

In addition to the weeklong series of activities, a special recognition will be held for the 10-year anniversary of UHD Northwest!
