UHD Update on Governor's Executive Order

Safety & Mask Protocols Remain in Place, Classes Online Through March 14

Dear UHD Community,

Yesterday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued Executive Order GA-34 lifting the state’s mask mandate and allowing businesses to reopen at 100 percent capacity starting March 10.

UHD will continue to keep current mask and distancing protocols in place. Likewise, the University will continue to require faculty, staff, students and visitors to sign in at designated entrances when entering campus.

These protocols are consistent with recommendations from health professionals and the Centers for Disease Control. They will remain in place for the time being, and classes are to remain 100 percent online until March 14.

According to Section 6 of the Governor’s executive order, public schools, private schools, and institutions of higher education should “operate at or above the minimum standard health protocols issued by the Texas Education Agency.” UHD will continue to follow this recommendation until further notice.

UHD’s executive leadership, COVID-19 Task Force and Department of Emergency Management are closely monitoring updates from the Office of the Governor and the UH System, as well as current pandemic levels within the region.

Updates are forthcoming regarding the status of classes beyond March 14.
