UHD Update - Academic Activities During Tropical Storm Harvey

Summary

By Mike Emery

Tropical Storm Harvey continues to linger over the Houston area, displacing families and damaging homes. Many University community members are displaced or without resources. Students have been inquiring through social media regarding class assignments and deadlines this week. The University recognizes these concerns and encourages everyone to make safety their top priority.

UHD has suspended course activity, both online and face-to-face, until Harvey has passed through Houston. It is recommended that when possible faculty should communicate with students and work with them regarding deadlines and assignments that were due during the University's closure. Students with specific questions regarding coursework should communicate directly with their professor but, bear in mind that power outages across the city and the unavailability of several UHD online services including Blackboard, Banner, myUHD and e-services will impact immediate communication and feedback.

The magnitude of Harvey is devastating to our city and the UHD community but it is important that we work together to offset additional challenges this fall semester. The University and faculty will review existing syllabi and the academic calendar to ensure a quality academic experience for our students.

Another University update will be available after 2 pm today, please continue to check UHD's home page, UHD social media (Twitter, Facebook) and UHD News regarding academic and administrative functions.
