UHD to Host Peter S. Beagle, Author of 'The Last Unicorn'
The UHD Student Government Association, in collaboration with The Final Twist Writers Society, will host internationally acclaimed science-fiction and fantasy writer Peter S. Beagle on campus, Friday, April 17, at 2:30 p.m. in the Wilhelmina Cullen Robertson Auditorium.
Beagle is the author of "The Last Unicorn," a 1968 sci-fi novel that is highly regarded as one of the greatest in the genre, often polling as one of the top ten modern fantasy novels, just below "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "The Hobbit." Since its first publication, the book has never been out of print in the U.S., and has sold more than 6 million copies in over 25 languages worldwide.
A 90-minute animated film version of The Last Unicorn was produced by ITC/Rankin-Bass and distributed by Jensen-Farley in November 1982. Christopher Lee, Mioa Farrow, Jeff Bridges and Alan Arkin were among the talents who lent their voices to the film.
At the UHD Unicorn Run, attendees will hear from the author, view the film, and have an opportunity to get books signed by Beagle.
Admission is free, but seating is limited. Ticket information is available on the event Facebook page or by contacting English professor Leif Behmer.
