University of Houston-Downtown students who do not have access to needed technology for the spring semester can still receive help to obtain this much needed resource.

Once again, UHD Technology Services is providing computers, webcams and Internet access devices to students in need. “The service we are providing to students has been well received, and is extremely rewarding to us in IT, knowing that we are able to assist students with remote learning who are in need of technology during these unprecedented times,” noted Said Fattouh, UHD Executive Director of Information Technology and Deputy Chief Information Officer.

Students requesting technology must fill out the Technology Needs Survey, which will be reviewed by the Office of the Dean of Students and forwarded to Information Technology (IT) for verification.

Eligible students must meet the following criteria:

• Currently enrolled for Spring Semester
• Have a need for a PC, internet or webcam
• Have not have been an issued a PC from UHD Technology Services unless the device is not operable

Those approved will be contacted and may pick up their equipment from the IT Surplus Store, Room S819.

The computer distributions were first offered in March 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic and Harris County’s Stay at Home orders left students to finish the semester through virtual instruction. Information Technology then initiated the program to provide students with used/retired computers that are in good working condition. Fattouh wants students to also be aware of the resources available through IT, including its Taking Classes Online and Remotely website. In addition, the IT Service Desk remains open 7 a.m. to midnight seven days a week.
