For the second time, University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) Communication Studies students hosted UHD VegOut. VegOut is a fun event that encourages and educates people of all ages to brighten up their plates and lead healthy lifestyles.

A two-day festival and a cooking demonstration were originally scheduled to encourage community participation, but were canceled due to flooding. The students along with their professors, Ashely Archiopoli and Creshema Murray, quickly regrouped and forged ahead, hosting both events at the Willow Pump Station last Thursday, April 21.

Despite weather challenges, the event was a success. Students, faculty and their families enjoyed games and prizes, and a healthy cooking demonstration of tasty vegetables and salads by Chef Justin Kouri of Recipe for Success.

"I really enjoyed participating in the event because it gave us an opportunity to interact and work together with our professors outside of the classroom environment," commented UHD communication studies student Rocio Moreno. "Their enthusiasm and dedication to the project made it exciting and fun."
