UHD Division of Student Success & Student Life Hosts National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week Events: Nov. 14 – 17

The mission is clear surrounding the UHD Institutional Compass’ Four Points of Excellence, especially ​​​Strengthening Student Success and Equity. The University’s new Division of Student Success and Student Life is hosting four events dedicated to helping ensure the success of our Gator students.

“Changing the Trajectory: Valuing the Importance of Black & Brown Enterprise and Entrepreneurship”
Monday, Nov. 14

Wilhelmina Cullen Robertson Auditorium, A350

In partnership with AllianceBernstein and Pleasant Hill Church of Deliverance, this free networking and business conference is open to the Campus and Greater Houston communities. Conference participants will gain valuable knowledge and insight from industry leaders such as Russell Ybarra, owner of Gringos, Jimmy Changas, and Bullritos restaurant chains; Sandra Heard, owner of Prime Waste Solutions; James Thompson, Senior Vice President and Head of Diverse Market Strategies at AllianceBernstein Private Wealth Management, and many more.

 “The goal of this conference is to expand our thinking, unlock opportunities, and close the wealth gap in black and brown communities,” said Eugene Bernard, Director of UHD Student Life. “This event is dedicated to the success of our students by bringing awareness to the issues surrounding hunger and homelessness and to provide solutions and resources to break the cycle of poverty and build wealth for future generations.”

“Student Panel: Determined Through Tough Times
Tuesday, Nov. 15

This student panel discussion will feature UHD students sharing personal stories of challenges and successes in meeting their basic needs as they attend college with insight from Dr. Rashida Crutchfield, Associate Professor of Social Work at California State University, Long Beach.

UHD Health Fair
Wednesday, Nov. 16
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Academic Building, A300
Sponsored by Sports & Fitness and the UHD Wellness Committee, this Health Fair will feature more than 40 health and wellness vendors, an STD screening, blood drive, free groceries from the Houston Food Bank, snacks, and SWAG!
