UHD Student Counseling Services’ New Virtual, After-Hours Office

Are you a student who needs a safe place where you can open up and speak freely and honestly? 

Meet Dr. Deborah McGinty, UHD’s newest counselor! She monitors the waiting room of the new virtual counseling office Monday–Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and the first and third Saturday of every month from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.  Dr. McGinty will see “drop-ins” while she is not seeing scheduled clients—students only, please. Interested? Visit this link during those hours.  If she is with a client, the wait may be longer than 5-10 minutes.McGinty

A Licensed Professional Counselor and a LPC Approved Supervisor, McGinty has more than 20 years of experience in higher education with previous experience as a Dean of Student Development and Director of Counseling. She has worked in private practice for 15 years and is currently an adjunct faculty in counseling.  She earned a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Prairie View A & M University and a doctorate in Counselor Education from Texas Southern University. 

Dr. McGinty provides therapy for adults addressing a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, stress, mood disorders, family issues, grief, and relationship concerns. She uses a holistic approach in counseling from several treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
