UHD Staff to Raise Funds to Support Special Olympics Texas Athletes

A team of UHD staff members will go "Over the Edge" for a good cause. Over the Edge (OTE) is a fundraising venture in which participants raise money to support Special Olympics Texas athletes in exchange for getting the opportunity to experience rappelling 15 to 20 stories down a high-rise building.

The event is offered by Special Olympics Texas, a nonprofit organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Whether you plan to rappel or send someone else over the edge by way of a donation, this will be an adrenaline-pumping, unforgettable experience.

The group consists of UHD staff members Lt. Fred Varela and Officer Maria Ayala of the UHD police dept. Meritza Tamez, director of disability services and Carol Manousos, director of emergency management. Team members need to raise a minimum of $1,200 each to be allowed to participate.

Join the gator team on Saturday, Nov. 14, in downtown Houston as team members rappel down the Embassy Suites Hotel at 1515 Dallas St, Houston, TX 77010.
