The University of Houston-Downtown has always provided a supportive learning environment for its diverse student population – including those Gators who are the first in their families to pursue a college education. Beginning on Thursday, Nov. 5, the University’s social media platforms will recognize First-Generation College Celebration Week and acknowledge UHD’s current First-Gen Gators.

During the week, current First-Gen students, alumni, as well as faculty and staff will be featured in special posts on UHD’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram platforms. Members of the Gator Community are encouraged to share these posts or identify as a First-Gen student using the hash tag #UHDFirstGen.

In 2017, the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the Center for First-Generation Student Success launched the inaugural First-Generation College Celebration Given the continued success of this event, COE and the Center now partner to make this celebration an annual event.
