UHD Reopening Monday, Feb. 22
Dear UHD Community,
We hope everyone is recovering from last week’s winter storm. Low temperatures, loss of power and numerous other issues posed challenges for all Houstonians, but warmer days are ahead of us. Still, many of our Gators face challenges with regard to water supplies or damage to their homes.
If your power is restored, we encourage you to check up on your fellow Gators. See if they need anything, from bottled water to a warm meal … or even just words of encouragement.
If you need resources to help you, United Way Houston has an After The Storm Recovery Guide. Also, water distribution sites are located throughout the city. Local media is providing details on when and where to obtain free bottled water. ABC13, KPRC, FOX26, Univision, Telemundo and KHOU are among the outlets with the latest updates on these sites and other resources in the city.
As a reminder, UHD will open on Monday, Feb. 22. All classes will resume online, and we understand that faculty and students will appreciate flexibility where possible while still meeting course objectives as we navigate schedule and deadline changes due to missed class time. On this date, the campus will be open for students to access resources such as the W.I. Dykes Library, computer labs and student-facing offices. As always, the Information Technology Helpdesk is available for all members of the UHD Community.
Students who lost access to needed technology (PC, webcam, internet) may apply for assistance by completing the Technology Needs Survey. Additionally, the Food for Change Market will be open for students but with limited inventory.
For students seeking additional support following this unprecedented weather event, UHD’s Student Counseling services are available for phone consultations.
Although the storm is over, we realize our community is still working hard to fully recover. Please know that your University is here for assistance and to help ensure a successful completion to the spring semester.
