UHD Receives $10,000 Grant for Homeless Preschool Education Programs
The Union Pacific Foundation recently awarded a $10,000 grant for fiscal year 2015 in support of educational programs taught by UHD's Department of Urban Education at the House of Tiny Treasures (HTT).
House of Tiny Treasures is a nationally accredited early childhood education program that provides early childhood education for toddler and preschool age children while their parents attend classes and begin working. Most student's families reside in area shelters or other housing programs. Beyond educational programs, HTT provides its students with nutritious meals, intensive art, play and speech therapy.
The educational programs that UHD delivers to HTT are based on curricular and instructional strategies developed by the University's early childhood and literacy faculty and are delivered by UHD pre-service students.
