Dear Campus Community, 

As disturbing acts of aggression and brutality against Asian-Americans and Pacific-Islanders increase across this country and most recently in Atlanta, I ask that we stand as a university community in solidarity with our own students, faculty and staff who might be feeling frightened or persecuted due to such egregious acts of hate and violence. 

It is truly astonishing when even during our recovery from a deadly pandemic that there are those among us who continue to attempt to sow division and hatred, rather than coming together as one community and nation to fight a common enemy. Despite this latest trend, however, I remain confident that the UHD community will continue to stand strong in the face of such mindless aggression and will continue to recognize that we are all one people, challenged by the same adversities, and committed to a relentless pursuit of freedom, justice, and equality for all. 

 At the University of Houston-Downtown, we have no tolerance for hate. Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is at the heart of everything we do, but this value succeeds only when we acknowledge our common humanity and exercise respect for one another. The University of Houston-Downtown will continue to put action behind our words and do the meaningful work that unifies and uplifts us as a Gator family.
