UHD Powerlifting to Clash with Big-Time Texas Powerlifting Programs

UHD Powerlifting will be competing in the third annual USAPL Texas Collegiate Regional Championship Saturday, Dec. 19 at the El Tropicano Hotel in San Antonio.

The Texas Collegiate Regional is arguably the most difficult Collegiate Regional meet in the nation owing to the quality of teams at Texas colleges and universities.

At this meet, UHD chief rivals are Texas A&M, University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), and Sam Houston State. While UHD possesses the talent to go toe-to-toe with any of the best teams in the nation, the Gators are still working on building depth — something larger Texas schools have in abundance.

While Coach Hudson expects his starters to earn enough first and second place finishes to put UHD in the running for the team championship, he admits that UHD's lack of depth means that there is absolutely no margin for error.

While the rival teams have lifters waiting in the wings to score points if their starters have a bad day, the Gators have no such luxury. To win, they have to lift up to their potential and execute with perfection.

Coach Hudson is especially excited to see the growing Gator Women's squad in competition, as he has finally recruited enough women to officially enter women's team competitions.

If things go well, the Gators will be the best in Texas by Saturday evening.
