UHD Powerlifting Signs Freshman Jasmine Ruiz

The UHD powerlifting team added Jasmine Ruiz of Brooks Academy in San Antonio to its ranks this week. Ruiz is a former teammate of current UHD Powerlifting freshman and USAPL National Collegiate All-American, Priscilla Perez, who placed 4th at the 2015 USAPL National Collegiate Championships in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ruiz closed out her senior season in the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association by placing 6th in the 132-pound weight class in the Class 3A Texas State Championships. As a student at Brooks Academy—a STEM-focused charter school—Ruiz was a member of the National Honor Society and the National Hispanic Institute.

"Jasmine trained with Brooks Academy coach Juan Garcia, who I consider the best active high school coach in Texas," said powerlifting coach John Hudson. "I have been eager to fill the 138 weight class on our women's roster, and I know Jasmine will provide perform well at UHD."
