UHD Police Dept. Continues Focus on Campus Safety

By Laura Wagner

Last January, the UHD Police Department rolled out the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) Higher Education (HED). The SRP provides consistent, clear, shared language and actions for all students, faculty, staff, and first responders for all hazards in the form of five easily identifiable icons and associated actions, referred to as “Terms of Art.”

Posters were placed around campus and students, faculty, staff, and visitors were encouraged to familiarize themselves with the icons and actions. According to UHDPD Chief Casey J. Davis, Ph.D., the goal of the new system was to improve the chance of a safe outcome in emergency situations.

On Jan. 8, 2024, another safety measure will launch, SafeZone, an app that will help the campus community achieve the highest levels of communication with regard to campus safety. Stay tuned for details about this exciting development!
