UHD Police Department to Conduct "Active Shooter" Training on Campus
The UHD Police Department will conduct an ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) exercise from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19 through Thursday, Aug. 22 at the Commerce Street Building.
The training will help prepare the department for an active shooter situation and equip UHD police officers with the skills and experience to protect students, faculty and staff in the event of this emergency.
The department will participate in simulated active shooter scenarios and you may hear gun shots, explosions, yelling or other sounds of crisis. Please note: This is only a training and there will be no cause for alarm. The simulation will not include the use of actual guns or other duty weapons. Participating officers will use simulated guns that fire soap pellets.
We recommend that you avoid the building, if at all possible, on Monday and Tuesday.
The University of Houston-Clear Lake Police Department and the Katy ISD Police Department also will participate with this training exercise. Please do not be alarmed if you see officers training inside or around the perimeter of the building.
Cadets from UHD's Criminal Justice Training Center will assist with redirecting and informing individuals of the training in progress. Throughout the training, all three stairwells and the elevator exit to the second floor will be blocked by a cadet, police officer, signage or police tape. Please do not pass through areas that have been cordoned off for this purpose.
Please do not leave any items, including learning materials, in classrooms of the Commerce Street Building overnight throughout the training.
Thank you for your flexibility as we complete this key training that will enhance the safety of all individuals on the UHD campus.
