UHD Officers, Student Go 'Over the Edge' for Special Olympics

By: Mary Ann Cozza

Several people from UHD are going "over the edge" for Special Olympics!

A team made up of mostly UHD staff and students will participate in a unique fundraising venture for Special Olympics Texas called "Over the Edge." Teams raise funds in exchange for the opportunity to rappel down the 22 stories of the Houston InterContinental Hotel, 2222 West Loop South.

UHD police lieutenant Fred Varela, along with police officers Pedro Villanueva, Adam Soto, Maria Ayala, Dustin Yates, Student Government Association vice president Diana Lopez and Austin Independent School District teacher Iris Benish make up team "No Limits." If they reach their $2,000 fundraising goal, this group of giving daredevils will take the plunge Nov. 12.

To learn more about team No Limits, find their team page on the "Over the Edge" website here .
