UHD Officer Stands Up to Bullying

By: Mary Ann Cozza

Positive thinking can lead to positive change. Just ask UHD Police Lieutenant Fred Varela, who volunteered to attended a +Works (Positive Works) seminar March 4 at Pershing Middle School.

The seminar's theme was "March Forth for Peace" and featured music, a band, chorale groups, writing and more.

According to Officer Varela, "Bullying happens not just in middle and high school, but in college, the workplace and the boardroom. It crosses all ethnic boundaries and all age groups. Bullying can happen to a 5 year old, or a 65 year old."

+Works is a "parent-driven, grassroots, nonprofit organization serving as a catalyst for positive community change on adult and student bullying and other trending concerns."
