UHD Launches New Master's Program in Fall 2014

In fall 2014, UHD will launch the new Master of Arts program in Rhetoric and Composition (MARC). Our program is designed to produce excellent teachers of writing for college classrooms. The program at UHD allows students to do all of their coursework in composition, rhetoric, language and communication.

The MARC degree is especially focused on the multicultural character of today's college writing classrooms: the program trains future teachers to identify and respond to the particular needs of each student, and how to structure a writing curriculum that recognizes the various levels of student preparation.

After completing 18 hours of study, MARC students may compete for paid teaching assistantships in the freshman writing program at UHD. Upon completion of the degree, graduates are eligible to teach college-level writing and English courses at most universities nationwide. Because of its sustained focus on the growing fields of rhetoric and composition, the program also serves as an excellent foundation for doctoral study. The MARC degree is also an excellent way to distinguish oneself as a leading candidate for teaching positions in Texas high schools.

The application deadline for the fall 2014 semester is July 15, 2014. For more information, please contact Adam Ellwanger at (713) 226-5577, send email to MARC@uhd.edu, or visit us on Twitter @UHDRhetComp.
