UHD Launches International Society of Automation (ISA) Student Chapter

By: Claire Caton

UHD's Control and Instrumentation Engineering Technology (CIET) students recently formed an International Society of Automation (ISA) Student Chapter and elected four officers for the 2012-2013 academic year. These officers include: Kevin Stephenson, president; Alyssa Enriquez, vice president; Dawnita Green, secretary; Mark Mireles, treasurer; and Wesley Gonzales, parliamentarian.

To mark the election day, Chapter faculty advisor Weining Feng, Ph.D. invited guest speaker Steve Mustard to present a seminar on SCADA Systems and applications across sectors, including the water industry, midstream energy services and electrical power grid networks. Mustard, who serves as chairman of the Americas Regional Board of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and managing director of Au2mation, also discussed the benefits of joining professional organizations.

UHD's ISA Student Chapter has planned several events for the year, including field trips, special-topic seminars, community volunteer projects and fundraising events. For more information about the chapter, please e-mail isa.uhd@gmail.com.
