UHD IT Department Recognized for Innovation

Congratulations to the UHD Department of Information Technology, which was recently recognized as one of 13 finalists for the 2013 AMX Innovation Awards. UHD was selected out of hundreds of entries from around the world for using innovative technology solutions in a learning environment.

UHD's challenge was to migrate the distribution facility and related areas from analog to digital high definition systems while maintaining existing support for analog audio application.

According to Steven Cachia, assistant director for networking infrastructure, "On our old High Def Analog system, it took three to four seconds to switch between sources. This had to change, especially with fast switching requirements for applications such as video conferencing."

Other U.S. award winners include Stanford University, Temple University, Penn State University and Texas A&M University. The award was established by the University Business Leadership Institute and is sponsored by AMX and the Global Education Alliance. As a finalist, UHD will receive additional equipment to enhance classroom technology continuity.
