UHD Hosts Urban Land Institute Panel, METRO

For several days last week, UHD hosted on campus a 'Technical Assistance Panel' (TAP), assembled by the

Houston chapter of the Urban Land Institute. Their focus has been two-fold. One charge was to look at the METRO plan for the proposed Burnett Street transit center that is being constructed just north of campus and offer ideas/comments on how to develop it into a vibrant, transit-oriented neighborhood. The second charge was to look at all of the METRO-owned land parcels just north of I-10 and offer thoughts on how those can best be put to use for the benefit of the overall North End sector.

On Friday, June 1, the panel held a final presentation in the Cullen Robertson Auditorium. Panelists included representatives from GHMI, Jones Lang LeSalle, Midway, SWA Gorup and CDS Market Research.

Recommendations were made by the panel and attendees were able to ask questions relating to the plan, neighborhood, stakeholders, etc. The panelists will prepare a final report detailing the panel's findings and recommendations and present it on the final day of their assignment.
