UHD Hosts Fashion Extravaganza

On Wednesday, Sept. 21, the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) Main Career Development Center hosted "Dress to Impress," a fashion extravaganza focused on educating students about professional work and interview attire.

The event included talented individuals and community partners including Banana Republic Galleria, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Kaye Moon Winters, Patrick Jefferson and Hatziri Rancano.

Allison Noll from Mary Kay kicked off the event with a proper work make-up application demonstration; Patrick Jefferson, assistant vice president of Student Affairs, taught students how to tie a tie; and Kaye Moon Winters, adult learner specialist/consultant and motivational speaker, showcased her creative talents by demonstrating the many ways to wear a scarf.

After a brief welcome by Laura A. Weseley, the director of the Main Career Development Center, Student Government vice president Hatziri Rancano shared her experience with Mary Kay and her evolution as a young professional. She emphasized the importance of professional branding and putting your best foot forward. "The clothing you wear is an important part of your professional brand," said Rancano.

During the fashion show, students modeled business casual, interview and business formal attire from Banana Republic. Career Coach Marti Trummer led the audience in an informative and interactive discussion on why each outfit was considered professional, appropriate attire.

A light reception was hosted by Career Coach Lisa Marie Gonzales-Hatfield. The show wrapped up with a raffle for five free head shots.
