UHD Harvey Update - Sept. 5

Summary

By Mike Emery

The University of Houston-Downtown will continue to send regular updates to faculty, staff and students regarding the University's recovery from Harvey. See the latest news below:

Campus Reopening Sept. 5

The UHD downtown campus will reopen tomorrow, Sept. 5, and regularly scheduled classes are expected to be held. All buildings will be open at 6 a.m. except for the Student Life Center which will remain closed Sept. 5.

Classes at UHD Northwest and Lone Star College-CyFair will also resume tomorrow. Classes at Lone Star College-Kingwood will resume tomorrow, but they will be taught online.

Parking, Traffic and Roadways:

UHD parking lots and garages are open. While parking lots are safe, some have sustained minor damage and will be monitored by Parking and Transportation staff. Roads immediately surrounding UHD are accessible.

The UHD Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) office was impacted by flooding, and will be relocated to a temporary office. Due to this disruption, online parking registration for the Fall 2017 semester will be extended through Monday, Sept. 11, and parking enforcement will be relaxed through Friday, Sept. 15. Parking-related inquires can be made via e-mail at parking@uhd.edu or by calling 713-221-8127.

If you are coming to campus, please be safe and use resources such as Houston TranStar to check roadways before driving.

Information Technology & Facilities Management

The offices of Information Technology and Facilities Management are operational. Students, faculty and staff with technology or facilities needs should contact the Helpdesk at ithelp@uhd.edu (713-221-8031) or Facilities at FacilitiesWorkRequest@uhd.edu (713-221-8026).

Temporary Child Watch Expansion

Since members of the UHD community may have additional child care needs at this time, UHD will offer expanded Child Watch services on a temporary basis. Visit UHD Child Watch for additional details on this campus service.

Consequently, the UHD campus will remain a gun-free zone starting Sept 5. In compliance with SB11 - or the Campus Carry Law - UHD requires that any areas of campus occupied by children be designated as gun-free zones. The campus community will be notified when this status changes. Additional details on UHD's Campus Carry policies are available here.

Gator Relief Fund

UHD President Dr. Juan Sánchez Muñoz recently announced the Gator Relief Fund, supporting students affected by Harvey. Faculty, staff and students can contribute to this fund here.

Employee Resources Page

An Employee Resources Page has been added to UHD's Harvey Information and Resources Page. This new page has details related to payroll, supporting fellow staff members and information about the UHD Employee Emergency Disaster Relief Fund that was established by the University in response to Harvey.
