Thirty-four young people received college scholarships Sunday at the annual Out for Education awards ceremony in the Wilhelmina Roberson Cullen auditorium. Funded by local individuals and organizations, the scholarships - totaling more than $88,000 - support Houston-area LGBT students in their pursuit of college degrees. President Flores began the program with a welcome to the awards candidates, families and friends, scholarship benefactors and members of the Greater Houston communities. This year's event marks the first time Out For Education has held its awards ceremony in an academic setting and at the University of Houston-Downtown.
