UHD Criminal Justice Cadets Volunteer at 'National Night Out' Events

Cadets from the University of Houston-Downtown Criminal Justice Training Center participated in Tuesday's National Night Out by handing out literature about personal safety and home and vehicle protection at several locations in Harris County Precinct 2. Precinct 2 Constable and UHD alumnus Chris Diaz has invited UHD cadets to assist with this community service project each year since he was elected to the position.

National Night Out is an annual event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development and promotion of various crime prevention programs. The event was introduced in 1984 as a means of promoting the organization's mission, and has since grown to involve over 16,000 communities across America. Neighbors host a variety of events including block parties and safety demonstrations by local emergency personnel to raise awareness of neighborhood crime prevention and the importance of building neighborly relationships.
