UHD Commences Search for Next President

UH System Supported by Anthem Executive in Search

The official search to identify a new President for the University of Houston-Downtown, is under way, and the University of Houston System is pleased to announce the hiring of Anthem Executive to support that effort.

Since 1974, UHD has served the educational needs of the region. It is Houston's second largest university and the most affordable four-year institution of higher education in the city. It also consistently ranks as one of the most affordable universities in Texas.

UHD hosts 44 bachelor's degrees and nine master's programs based within its five colleges: University College, College of Sciences & Technology, College of Humanities & Social Sciences, College of Public Service and Marilyn Davies College of Business. For the past two years, U.S. News & World Report has recognized UHD’s online programs. Likewise, U.S. News & World Report ranks UHD as a Top Performer on Social Mobility for its commitment to underserved student populations.

Other acknowledgements include the Houston Business Journal ranking UHD’s Master of Business Administration program as the largest in Houston and The Chronicle of Higher Education citing UHD as one of the top 10 U.S. public four-year universities graduating the highest percentages of students by their fifth or sixth year.

The University is a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution and Minority Serving Institution. As such, it hosts a range of centers and departments focused on diversity and cultural enrichment, including the Center for Diversity & Inclusion Center for Critical Race Studies, Center for Latino Studies, Lab for Equity in Action, SynergIE in Natural Sciences and Lab for Equity in Action. For the past two years, the University has earned the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT into Diversity.

This fall, UHD posted its third consecutive year of enrollment growth with more than 15,000 students (a record for the University).

The next UHD President will be the University's seventh leader appointed to this position.

Anthem Executive has Texas roots, conducts higher education and academic medicine search nationwide, and has led several of the State of Texas’ most significant chancellor, president, provost and academic, and executive search assignments.

Consultants Mike JR Wheless of Houston, Scott Watson, and Michael Ballew of the Anthem Executive search and consulting firm will be supporting the Presidential search and selection process on behalf of the University of Houston System.
