As University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) Club Sports wind down for the 2015-16 season, many of the sport club teams finished their season on a strong note.

Wrestling Club

The UHD Wrestling Club team competed in their first ever National Championships for the National Collegiate Wrestling Association March 10-12 in Kissimmee, Florida. Two Gators were named All-Americans as Devon Jackson finished in third place in 125-pound weight class, and Thomas Mancha finished in fourth place in the 197-pound weight class. Additionally, this is the first time in 16 years that the NCWA Southwest Conference has had two All-Americans from the same school. Kavrin Cox (235-pound weight class) and Christopher Woods (285-pound weight class) also competed. Overall, the UHD wrestling team tied for fourth place in the NCWA Division II out of more than 70 teams.

Cheer Club

The UHD Cheer Club team performed at 2016 NCA Spring Classic on Saturday, March 19 in the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. The squad walked away with a great experience heading into the 2016-17 season. The squad has their minds set on the 2017 NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Women's Volleyball Club

The UHD Women's Volleyball Club team competed in the NCVF National Club Volleyball Tournament April 7-9. The tournament was held at the Kentucky Exposition Center in downtown Louisville. The ladies made it all the way to the Championship Match in the Bronze Division, but fell short to Stetson University. Victories were earned over teams such as College of New Jersey, John Carrol University and Yale University.

Gatorettes Dance Club

The UHD Gatorettes Dance Club showcased their skills in two fall 2016 competitions. Their first competition was at the 2016 Dance KAR Competition on April 2, at Cinco Ranch High School. The Gatorettes competed in the Adult Small Group Hip Hop/Funk 20 and Above division and were awarded "Elite Top First Place" and the "High Point Award." Their second competition was held on April 9, at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas at the 2016 Thunderstruck Dance Competition. The Gatorettes competed in the Rock Star Advanced - C, Adult Hip Hop Small Group division, and earning "First Place Overall" and "High Gold."

UHD Men's Basketball Club

The UHD Men's Basketball Club Team finished their season with an impressive overall 10-2 record, and 7-1 record in the Houston Club Sports Basketball Conference. The team advanced to the Sweet 16 in the 2016 NIRSA Region IV Basketball Tournament at University of Houston-Main, March 4-6, and carried that momentum into conference play. The team hosted HCC-Southeast in the quarterfinals on April 15, and earned a 60-37 victory to advance to the semifinals in the HCSBC Playoff Tournament.

Powerlifting Club

The UHD Powerlifting Club team competed in the 2016 USAPL Collegiate Nations at the Rhode Island Convention Center in downtown Providence, April 16-17. Four Gators earned recognition and placed in the top five of their weight class. Kenny Nguyen (66 kg weight class) finished in second place with 536.59 points. Three Gators earned fifth place finishes: Alec DeLeon with 424.23 points, Yazmin Trujillo with 381.22 points, and Amber Blankemeyer with 365.96 points.
