UHD Arts + Communication Festival Kicks Off April 4

The UHD Community is invited to attend the 2022 Arts + Communication Festival," Breaking Barriers," hosted by the Cultural Enrichment Center April 4 - 14.

The festival will feature events, including karaoke with UHD’s Los Caimanes Mariachi Band, an opening night performance of “The Royale” in the O’Kane Theatre, an Elevator Pitch Contest, an Internship Fair, and much more.

Participants of the Elevator Pitch Contest on April 12 have a chance to receive prizes for a 60-second pitch on who they are and what makes them “awesome.” The first-place winner will receive $50; second place $30; and third place $20. Participants also will have a chance to get feedback and advice on pitches from UHD professors at the April 13 Internship Fair.

“The 2022 Arts & Communication Festival Committee has been working hard over the past months to create a hybrid experience that will bring the annual festival into ‘the new normal,’ where in-person events are combined with virtual talks to provide the UHD community with a wide variety of options to engage participation,” said Natacha Poggio, UHD Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. “Last year, the festival was an all-virtual format and we had amazing speakers from around the world. This year, we wanted to continue featuring prominent voices of national recognition while also highlighting the work of local community members working in the fields of arts and communication.”
