Recently, the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) earned a top place among the "Top Public Schools for Freshman Financial Aid Report" for its commitment to providing its freshman students a strong start on their academic journey. The University ranked No. 33 on this list, which recognizes public colleges and universities where freshman undergraduate students can expect to receive the most financial aid, as compiled by The Student Loan Report.

UHD offers a variety of financial aid programs to assist students in meeting educational costs, including scholarships, grants, loans and work-study that may be awarded in various combinations and amounts to meet individual needs.

Based on licensed data from Peterson's Financial Aid Dataset, the Student Loan Report reviewed 250 U.S. public institutions, ranking from highest to lowest according to freshman financial aid awarded by each school. The data used from Peterson's Dataset are self-reported by the colleges themselves and pertain to the academic year of 2015 - 2016.
