UHD Among Top 10 'Most Affordable Online Colleges'
By Sheryl E. Taylor
Online Schools Report (OSR) ranked the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) No. 8 among 50 universities/colleges in the nation as One of the Most Affordable Online Colleges.
The site noted that UHD offers students the ability to earn one of 15 bachelor’s degrees and one of three master’s degrees entirely online via on-campus, online, and hybrid classes in three locations in Greater Houston.
OSR uses six data points: three school-wide and three program-specific. For school-wide, OSR uses student satisfaction, admission rates, and the number of programs the school offers online. For program-specific, OSR checks the median debt of graduates from that program, how many degrees are offered within that program’s umbrella department, and what percentage of students at that school graduated from that department.
The site synthesizes data from the National Center for Education Statistics, the Bureau of Labor Statics, Payscale, and the Department of Education’s College Scorecard. Ultimately, colleges are scored based on their commitment to online education, admission rates, student satisfaction, alumni debt, and program speciality.
The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD)—the second largest university in Houston—has served the educational needs of the nation’s fourth-largest city since 1974.
As one of four distinct public universities in the University of Houston System, UHD is a comprehensive four-year university led by Dr. Juan Sánchez Muñoz. Annually, UHD educates more than 14,000 students; boasts more than 51,000 alumni and offers 44 bachelor’s and eight master’s degree programs within five colleges (Marilyn Davies College of Business; Humanities & Social Sciences; Public Service, Sciences & Technology; and University College).
UHD has the most affordable tuition among four-year universities in Houston and one of the lowest in Texas. The University is noted nationally as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, Minority-Serving Institution and Military Friendly School. For more on the University of Houston-Downtown, visit www.uhd.edu.
