UHD Among Top 10 'Most Affordable Online Colleges'

Summary

By Sheryl E. Taylor

Online Schools Report (OSR) ranked the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) No. 8 among 50 universities/colleges in the nation as One of the Most Affordable Online Colleges.

The site noted that UHD offers students the ability to earn one of 15 bachelor’s degrees and one of three master’s degrees entirely online via on-campus, online, and hybrid classes in three locations in Greater Houston.

OSR uses six data points: three school-wide and three program-specific. For school-wide, OSR uses student satisfaction, admission rates, and the number of programs the school offers online. For program-specific, OSR checks the median debt of graduates from that program, how many degrees are offered within that program’s umbrella department, and what percentage of students at that school graduated from that department.

The site synthesizes data from the National Center for Education Statistics, the Bureau of Labor Statics, Payscale, and the Department of Education’s College Scorecard. Ultimately, colleges are scored based on their commitment to online education, admission rates, student satisfaction, alumni debt, and program speciality.
