UHD AMA Chapter Named Student Organization Of The Year

From hosting career networking activities, coordinating leadership conferences, and participating in volunteer efforts in the community and on campus, the University of Houston-Downtown Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) is one busy organization—and its efforts have not gone unnoticed.

At the UHD Student Activities One Main Event in Junethe UHD Chapter of the AMA (AMA UHD) received two awards for outstanding achievements: the Student Organization of the Year for 2022 and the Most Creative/Special Program Award.

  • Student Organization of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding student group that has built a solid organization and has achieved success in accomplishing its goals.

  • Most Creative/Special Program Award recognizes the organization's efforts, through a creative/special program, to provide service in the community, involvement in professional, academic, and leadership development experiences, and overall impact on campus life and learning for students.

The annual One Main Event, which returned to an in-person format this year, recognizes organizations and individuals whose contributions to the UHD Community create a positive student experience and create positive change. Award nominations are submitted by members of the Campus Community, and highlight students, faculty, staff, and organizations who have shown tremendous commitment, character, and hard work throughout this academic school year.

Esteban Smith, Fall 2021 AMA UHD President, said the pandemic allowed the group to strategically plan its involvement in events that would draw interest among fellow students. “The officers wanted to make sure we left a structured plan in place that spanned about three years,” he said. “This would make AMA UHD feel more like an agency and provide long-term goals.”

Over the past year, the UHD chapter has either led or coordinated outreach, or volunteer efforts for 13 events on campus at the Marilyn Davies College of Business or in the community.

“We made sure to reach out to other organizations to work together to accomplish our common goal of enriching our member’s experience at UHD and offering connections to the Houston business world,” said Evangelina Vazquez, Spring 2022 AMA UHD President.
