UHD Alumni Spotlight: Mary Frometa

Mary Frometa was born to entertain and following her time at UHD, she found a way to make entertaining a career.

Frometa was born in Texas to a Venezuelan family that believed in the power of music. She attended college in Venezuela to earn a degree in public relations and journalism, but didn't complete the degree before she relocated to Houston. After taking a job with Anheuser Busch/Budweiser and receiving a scholarship from her employer, Frometa came to UHD and completed her degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2007.

Frometa remembers her time as a student fondly and believes it helped her become the successful businesswoman she is today.

"As soon as you get to UHD, you feel the desire to be better and better every day," she said. "My teachers had a very important role in my development and they were always encouraging and supporting me during my time at UHD."

"UHD feels like a big family. It's an environment made for students to succeed in."

Frometa started her own business, C&P Entertainment, a promotions and modeling agency, in 2004 and has enjoyed working for herself ever since.

"My favorite thing about my job is that I can work with people and not for them. I'm able to interact with different personalities and stay very busy on a daily basis," she said.

In addition to her business, Frometa is also the lead singer in Mary's Band, a Latin music group founded in 2001. The band regularly headlines festivals, clubs and other music venues with their upbeat cultural sound.
