The Center for Plain English Research and Study to Host Fifth Biannual Forum

Making Ends Meet Forum November 2015.

The Center for Plain English Research and Study is pleased to invite faculty, staff and students to participate in the fifth biannual Forum on Plain English at UHD. The forum will be held on Friday, Feb. 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in room N602, One Main Building. It aims to promote informed uses of Plain English guidelines, which are writing standards recommended by several government agencies for improved communications with the general public.

Our one-day forum will address the following topics:

  • Recent research on plain language
  • The relationship between ethics and plain language
  • The BUROC model for identifying opportunities to use plain language
  • Examples of organizations doing ethical work in plain language
  • Examples of organizations applying plain language innovatively
  • Practice session

The forum will also feature keynote speaker, Dr. Russell Willerton, associate professor in English at Boise State University. Other participating scholars include: Dr. Michelle Moosally, English department chair, and Dr. Natalia Mateeva, coordinator of Master of Science in technical communication.

To attend this forum, register online. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 24. Seating is limited. Each participant will receive a certificate of completion. Free lunch and free parking will be provided to all registrants.
