Texas State Rep. Gene Wu To Visit UHD Nov. 28

gene-solo-300x300 (1)Texas State Representative Gene Wu, who represents District 137 in Houston, will visit the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) campus to speak to students of UHD's Masters in Non-Profit Management (MNPM) program on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 1 p.m. in White Oak - Room A300. His presentation is open to all UHD faculty, staff and students.

"Rep. Wu has a long, established relationship working with different nonprofit organizations around Houston that help address some of the biggest problems in our community," said Dr. Laila Sorurbakhsh, lecturer of UHD's Department of Political Science and director of MNPM at UHD. "This will also give the representative a chance to see our wonderful campus before the next legislative session."

Prior to being elected in 2012, Wu served as a prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney's Office, where he sought justice for thousands of crime victims. He is currently serving his third term in office in the 85th Legislative Session where he was appointed to the House Committees on Appropriations and Human Services.

Outside of his legislative work, Wu remains active and involved in the Houston community. For the past nine years, he has worked with Neighborhood Centers Inc. in conducting monthly workshops that have helped several thousand Harris County residents become United States citizens. Wu currently serves on community advocacy and nonprofit organization boards. He has also served as a mentor and teacher for adults in the Skills for Living program, and tutored at-risk youth at Sharpstown High School.
