Support the Holiday Toy Drive for Children's Assessment Center

The College of Public Service is hosting a holiday toy drive to benefit the Children's Assessment Center (CAC), a nonprofit that provides a professional, compassionate and coordinated approach to the treatment of sexually abused children and their families and serves as an advocate for all children in the Houston community.

Founded in 1991, the CAC brings together social workers, physicians, attorneys and law enforcement professionals in one central location to provide a continuum of critical, coordinated services for sexual abuse victims. The CAC treats nearly 5,000 child victims of sexual abuse each year. UHD currently has alumni employed with the CAC in law enforcement and administrative capacities.

The CAC noted that in many drives older children ages 12-17 often receive fewer gifts, so pajama sets, perfume sets, watches, gift cards and other items that is feasible for that age group would be especially appreciated.

A donation box is located on the first floor of the Commerce Building by the security officer station. Donations can also be made to the criminal justice office (C340) or the social work office (C345), which are located on the third floor of the Commerce Building.

If gift cards are being donated, it is preferred that they are given directly to an administrative assistant or faculty member in one of listed offices, so that they can be secured. The deadline for donations is Wednesday, Dec. 2.

In addition to the toy drive, there are several holiday volunteer opportunities at the CAC. Please see the Children's Assessment Center for more information.
