Study Abroad Fair Held This Week
By: Mary Ann Cozza
UHD hosted a Study Abroad Fair for interested students in the halls of the Academic Building on Wednesday, Jan. 23. Students were able to meet with program sponsors to learn about interesting international experiences and trips.
Spencer Lightsy, Director of International Programs, was on hand to answer questions for students and encourage them to consider the life-changing possibilities study abroad experiences provide.
"Over 200,000 U.S. students currently go abroad each year. At UHD there are numerous study abroad experiences, ranging from faculty-led group trips which last a few weeks, through individual study abroad trips which can last an entire semester," Lightsy said.
He also made clear that from universities around the nation, three benefits of study abroad that are consistently mentioned are:
1. Participants in study abroad claim to develop higher levels of self-confidence, independence, and self-reliance.
2. Participants in study abroad demonstrate improved academic performance upon return to the United States.
3. Participants in study abroad attain higher enrollment persistence and graduation rates than those who do not study abroad.
