Students Visit Opera in the Heights

Last week, UHD students and professors enjoyed a night at the opera!

Nearly 30 members of the UHD community attended a free dress rehearsal of Giuseppe Verdi's classic opera, La Traviata, at Opera in the Heights last week. The event was organized by English department faculty member JoAnn Pavletich for students in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

According to Pavletich, it was the first opera experience for most of the students and a big success. Opera in the Heights is under the direction of Artistic Director Enrique Carreon-Robledo and is a regional opera company that provides performing opportunities to young artists and great musical experiences for Houston music lovers.

Pavletich is an opera enthusiast and encouraged her students to attend in order to experience something they might never have previously considered. Those that were able received a small piece of extra credit. There were also students there from classes taught by faculty members Cara Murray, Catherine Howard and Margaret Garza.
