Students Tour HPD Mounted Patrol Unit
Recently, 13 UHD students toured the Houston Police Department's (HPD) Mounted Patrol Unit's stables. The HPD-sponsored tour is part of a UHD criminal justice class, Police System, taught by adjunct professor Nhatthien "Nathan" Nguyen, who also is a captain with the city's police department. The students learned about the history of the Mounted Patrol Unit, which assists with downtown patrol, special events and crowd control, as well as the unit's training and safety protocol, operational procedures, personnel selection process and stable of horses.
