Social Work Program Co-Hosts Conference with UH

UHD's social work program co-hosted a lecture and training by Joyce James, Associate Deputy Executive Commissioner, Health and Human Services Commission Center for Elimination of Disproportionality and Disparities, on Tuesday, Oct. 2, with the University of Houston's Graduate College of Social Work.

The Center for Elimination of Disproportionality and Disparities serves as a leader in addressing the systemic factors and identifying practice improvements that address the disproportionate representation and disparate outcomes for children, their families, and other vulnerable citizens within the Texas Health and Human Services systems.

According to Dawn McCarty, associate professor of social sciences, it was a great honor for UHD and UH social work students to have James speak because of the significant work she and her department have accomplished in Texas on these issues.
