Renowned Expert on Islam, North Africa to Speak at UHD
The UHD history program, the Department of Social Sciences, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Cultural Enrichment Center are pleased to bring a renowned expert on Islam and North Africa to campus for a presentation next month.
Ricardo Laremont will present "Revolution, Revolt, and Reform in North Africa" from 4-5:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, in A436.
Larémont is professor of political science and sociology at SUNY Binghamton and a Carnegie Corporation Scholar on Islam. He has served on the faculty of SUNY Binghamton since 1997. He obtained his Ph.D from Yale University, his J.D. from New York University School of Law, and his B.A cum laude from New York University School of Arts and Science. He has written extensively on his research topics, which focuses upon political Islam, Islamic law, conflict resolution, democratization and civil/military relations, usually in the region of North Africa and the Sahel.
